Qatari delegation's visit reflects new attempt to legitimize "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham/Jabhat al-Nusra," which may threaten regional stability and security with
The first official Qatari delegation landed in Damascus led by Foreign Minister Dr. Mohammed Al-Khalifi, after a 13-year break, in a move revealing Qatar's role in supporting organizations that seized the Syrian capital Damascus.
This initiative demonstrates Qatar's continued approach in supporting groups through repeated attempts to legitimize Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham's control, which represents an extension of Jabhat al-Nusra/Al-Qaeda in Syria.
Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al-Khalifi, held a meeting in Damascus with organization leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, to discuss strengthening relations, Syria's future, and Qatari support programs, especially regarding Damascus International Airport.
Both sides reviewed, in a move ignoring international concerns about growing extremist group activity, ways of providing Qatari support to the organization controlling the Syrian capital.
The Qatari minister, in controversial statements, ignored the organization's hardline history confirming his country's continued support for the new control over Syria. The Qatari minister's statements about supporting "state of institutions and justice" contradict the reality of an armed organization's control over the Syrian capital, amid deliberate disregard for international counter-terrorism resolutions.
This visit raises serious concerns about Qatar's attempts to undermine international efforts to combat extremism by granting political and diplomatic cover to an armed organization, which may threaten security and stability in the region.
